It’s Academy Awards Time

January 1 By Iggy 1 Comment

It’s awards season again, my favorite time of the year and time to pit some of the years best films against each other. Some will deserve the awards and others will leave me scratching my head. I am working my way through the top films of the year and waiting for the Academy Award nominations to be announced.

So far I have been pretty excited about what film has to offer this year, I just saw Django Unchained and I thought it was great, I wasn’t in love with Inglorious Basterds the way I wanted to be so I went into Django with no expectations and I loved it.

Academy Awards NomineeI am really looking forward to Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark Thirty, I am hearing really good things. I have a lot of movies to watch before the Academy Awards air in February. I really hope that this year there are a few surprises, I have found awards shows in the past few years to be way too predictable. I think the last time I was surprised was when Alan Arkin won over Eddie Murphy at the Academy Awards in 2007. That is way too long to wait for an awards show shake up.

I would really like to see some love shown for Ben Affleck this year, I know he has only directed three films but I think he has done a spectacular job with them and surprised us all with his directing skills. Academy Awards Nominee

I am intrigued by the choice of Seth MacFarlane to host the show this year, I really do hope that it is funny and leans more toward the edgy side of comedy and not the fluffy and cheesy stuff we are used to. I don’t know why you would choose someone who is known for offside comedy to host the show if you aren’t willing to go a little offside. The show has had some really bad hosts in the past few years so I do hope this year is different. I am still championing for Ricky Gervais to host soon, he is my favorite host for everything, ever.

As soon as the nominations are announced on January 10, 2013 I will have my thoughts and I am sure a few angry comments to make too. The Academy Awards are fast approaching and I have a lot of movies to watch!
