About the Creators
Igor Alves (Iggy) – Cinematographer & Lighting Technician
Igor’s career began in 2007 on the front lines of independent feature film, music video, and shorts, starting as a Lighting technician and Cinematographer. By 2013, he had stepped into TV Development and Digital Production, where he helped shape breakout hits like Baroness von Sketch (CBC) and Backyard Builds (HGTV).
In 2019, Igor returned to set life with a broader vision—launching his own production company to produce commercials for local businesses, while also working as a lighting technician on high-profile national campaigns for brands including McDonald’s, Tim Hortons, and Loblaws.
In 2023, Igor began teaching Cinematography and Set Fundamentals at Toronto Film School, further cementing his passion for mentoring the next generation of filmmakers. Today, he combines his industry experience and teaching background to share practical, real-world filmmaking knowledge here on HTFS.

Courtney Hicks – Production Manager & Assistant Director
Courtney began her career in 2008 as an Assistant Director and Production Manager on independent feature films, short films, and music videos. In 2012, Courtney began working as a development producer at Frantic Films, in 2018 became the Vice President of Unscripted Development and in 2020 the Vice President of Development. In June 2023, Courtney left her role at Frantic to launch Riparian.
During her time at Frantic Courtney was integral in the development of Still Standing (CBC), Baroness von Sketch Show (CBC/IFC), Backyard Builds (HGTV Canada), and The Great Canadian Pottery Throw Down (CBC).
On top of her development work, Courtney produced the Winnipeg Comedy Festival from 2021-23 and earned the show it’s first Canadian Screen Award nomination. She has also produced the digital series Talent Drivers (CBC), as well as short films Love After Anne, Second Life, and One Last Last Heist, an official selection of the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival.
