Quad Split
A video monitor display divided into four quadrants, each showing a different camera feed.
Quality Control (QC)
A process in post-production to check final deliverables for technical issues (audio sync, color bars, closed captions, etc.).
Qualifying Shot
In continuity/editing, a shot that establishes geography or relationship before moving into closer coverage.
Quantize
In audio editing, the process of aligning sounds to a set timing grid, often used in music or rhythm editing.
Quasar Tubes
LED tube lights popular in film lighting for their portability and color temperature flexibility—precursor to Astera and Titan tubes.
Quarter Apple
The smallest apple box size (1″ thick). Used for small lifts, leveling, or rigging.
Quarter Grid Cloth
A diffusion material lighter than full grid cloth, often used on frames for softening light.
Quarter Spot / Quarter CTB / Quarter CTO
A fractional strength of a gel (e.g., Quarter CTB = subtle blue shift). Common shorthand in lighting.
Quarterback (Slang)
Sometimes used for an AD or producer who calls out set directions like a playmaker.
Quartz Lamp
A tungsten-halogen lamp that uses a quartz envelope to contain the filament. Common in film and television lighting because it burns hotter and brighter than standard incandescent bulbs and maintains a more consistent color temperature.
Quick Release Plate
A camera mounting plate that allows fast attachment/detachment of the camera from tripod or support.
Quick Study
An actor or crew member who is able to quickly learn lines, blocking, or technical instructions with little rehearsal or preparation.
Quicktime Reference File
A small file used in post that links to larger media files without containing the video itself—useful for offline editing.
Queue
A lineup or schedule of visual effects shots, renders, or audio tasks awaiting processing.
Quiet on Set
A standard AD call to bring noise levels down before rolling.
Quote Sheet
A document outlining the cost breakdown for equipment rental or services, often from vendors.
Quote-to-Cash
A production finance workflow term: the full process from cost quoting to receiving payment.
