Most film students are taught how to complete assignments.

Far fewer are taught how to work in a way that actually holds up on real sets.

101 Lessons I Learned Teaching at a Film School is a blunt, practical guide for film students, aspiring filmmakers, and early-career crew who want to stop making avoidable mistakes and start building stronger habits, better judgment, and more professional working standards.

This is not a book about vague inspiration or film-school mythology. It is about the patterns that slow people down: weak process, messy shoots, unclear direction, bad set behavior, poor communication, unrealistic expectations, weak portfolios, and the gap between classroom success and industry readiness.

Built from years of teaching film students and working in the film industry, this book breaks down the lessons that matter most:

how to finish projects consistently
how to direct with more clarity
how to avoid common camera, lighting, and sound mistakes
how to behave on set in ways that build trust
how to create a portfolio that proves something
how to think more clearly about freelance life and long-term career survival

Each lesson is short, direct, and designed to be useful. The goal is simple: shorten the learning curve that usually gets paid for with wasted time, bad habits, weak projects, unnecessary embarrassment, and avoidable friction.
