An EAD is a planning estimate rather than a guaranteed delivery date. It is used to coordinate schedules, prep days, crew calls, and logistics based on when resources are expected to be available, not when they are contractually required to arrive.
Although similar to ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival), EAD focuses specifically on the arrival date and is most commonly used in production scheduling and equipment rental contexts.
